Safe Spaces Impact

Safe Spaces is committed to transparency, learning, and accountability.

We monitor and report on our work so that:

  • People accessing support can understand how the service operates
  • Funders and partners can see how the service is performing
  • The service can continue to learn and improve

Our impact reporting combines regular service data with independent evaluation.

“It gave me a lift just having someone hear me and believe. For the first time in years, I felt truly listened to.”

How we measure impact

The impact of Safe Spaces is not measured by a single outcome.

People contact the service at different points in their lives, with different needs, experiences, and choices. Our approach to impact focuses on:

  • Access to independent support
  • Responsiveness and timeliness
  • The quality and consistency of advocacy
  • Client-led engagement
  • Learning and service improvement

We use a combination of:

  • Operational data
  • Anonymised service information
  • Independent analysis

This approach reflects the complexity of church-related abuse and avoids placing pressure on individuals to achieve specific outcomes.

Quarterly service reports

Safe Spaces publishes quarterly redacted reports to provide regular insight into how the service is operating.

These reports include high-level, anonymised information such as:

  • Number of contacts and referrals
  • Engagement with the service
  • Types of support provided
  • Patterns and trends over time

Quarterly reports are designed to:

  • Support transparency
  • Inform oversight and governance
  • Help identify areas for improvement

They do not include personal or identifiable information.

“Thank you for your support through a difficult few months. I appreciate the effort to help me as much as possible.”

“Having someone take the time to listen and believe us meant so much. It was the first time we felt heard.”

Using learning to improve the service

Learning from impact reporting and independent evaluation is actively used to:

  • Refine service delivery
  • Strengthen training and support for staff
  • Improve accessibility and engagement
  • Inform governance and oversight

This ensures that Safe Spaces continues to develop in response to evidence, feedback, and emerging needs.

Independent evaluation by Rocket Science

Safe Spaces also commissions independent evaluation to assess how the service is working.

Independent evaluation is carried out by Rocket Science, a specialist research and evaluation consultancy with experience in social impact, public services, and complex systems.

Rocket Science’s role is to:

  • Independently analyse service data
  • Assess how the service is being delivered
  • Explore learning and areas for development
  • Provide evidence-based insights to inform future improvements

This independent perspective helps ensure that evaluation is robust, objective, and credible.
